WAZIR ALI MEMORIAL TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT

THE LARGEST INTERSCHOOL TABLE TENNIS COMPETITION IN KARACHI

Named to honor (late) Nasra Wazir Ali's husband, (late) Malik Wazir Ali, our annual, inter-school table tennis competition began in 1993 and saw an exponential growth in popularity and participation.  For the last 26 years, ETNS has proudly and successfully hosted what is by far the largest table tennis tournament of any schools in Karachi. Attracting the participation of over 40 schools, nearly 90 teams and 400 students (including 200 girls), this three-day event is held at Islamia Club and commands the attention of thousands of avid spectators along with media presence.  (Please see our Media page for details of TV and press coverage of our most recent Wazir Ali Table Tennis Tournament, in Jan 2019.)

Schools which have participated in the Wazir Ali Table Tennis Tournament include: The City School & College, Beacon House School & College, Foundation Public School, The Lyceum School & College, Bay View School & College, Happy Palace Grammar School, Karachi Grammar School, Karachi Public School, Generation School, Habib Public School, Jamia Millia Govt. Girls School, Jinnah College, Khatoon-e-Pakistan, DA College Women Defence, Meritorious School & College, Shamsi School, M. H Ghazdar School, Meritorious School & College, Reflection School, Usman Public School, Tha Fahim School system, S M B Fatima Jinnah Girls School, Shah Willayat School and Army Public School.  

Each year, we are delighted to welcome some of Pakistan's most influential and recognizable personalities as our Special Guests and Guests of Honor at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of our sports functions.  Some of the guests who have graciously joined us in our table tennis festivities include:  

Mr. Asif Khan (Assistant Vice President CSR from National Bank of Pakistan); Sharjeel Memon (Provincial Minister of Sindh); Mr. Farhan Essa (CEO Essa Laboratory & Diagnostic Centre); Dr. Haris (Head of the Sukh Initiative of Aman Foundation); Ms. Faryal Gauhar; Mr. S.M. Sibtain (President of Pakistan Table Tennis Federation); Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui (Commissioner Karachi); Dr. Fazlullah Pechulo (Secretary of Education, Sindh); Shahzad Roy (President and Founder of Zindagi Trust) and Mr. Javed Hayat (Chairman KTTA). 

NASRA HALL OF FAME
SPOTLIGHT: ARIF KHAN

An alumnus of Nasra School, international table tennis champion and coach, Arif Khan is hailed as one of the most accomplished Pakistani players of the sport.  He represented the nation from 1974 - 1998, participating in eight biennial world championships, multiple Asian tournaments and innumerable Commonwealth table tennis competitions. Arif holds a record of becoming a three-time national champion in men's singles (1983, 1987, 1993), as well as securing several impressive gold medals at Kolkata SAF and Islamabad SAF games in 1987.

 

Still passionate about the sport, Arif Khan frequently lends our students his expertise at the Wazir Ali Memorial Table Tennis Tournament.
