Article 25-A in the Constitution of Pakistan under the 18th Constitutional Amendment evokes the fundamental and legal right to provision of free and compulsory education for all children of 5-16 years. Education has been recognized and guaranteed as a basic human right by United Nations under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948).

Pakistan has the world’s second-highest number of out-of-school children (OOSC) with an estimated 22.8 million children aged 5-16 not attending school, representing 44 per cent of the total population in this age group.

By investing your ZAKAT to help educate a student at Nasra School,  you are helping to break the vicious cycle of poverty that engulfs 4 out of 10 Pakistanis who live below the poverty line.  Our not-for-profit organization has been in existence for 70 years, relentlessly pursuing a humanitarian mission at heart: to offer affordable, English-medium, holistic education across some of the most densely-populated, low-income, high-risk areas of Karachi in order to transform the lives of the youth who need it the most.  Since our inception, we have produced several hundred thousand proud, well-rounded, highly capable graduates who are proving to be conscientious, outgoing and progressive citizens of the nation.

 

Most of our students come from middle to lower socioeconomic backgrounds, carrying within them the many stresses and burdens of growing up in a poverty-stricken third world nation.  Some of our pupils belong to severely financially challenged, and at times highly dysfunctional/ broken households.
